Barbados | Postal Service’s Digital Strategy Workshop To Assist SMEs

Must read

The Barbados Postal Service is hosting a two-day digital strategy workshop to assist small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in maximising their online presence in an effort to increase business.

Minister of Home Affairs and Information, Wilfred Abrahams, speaking ahead of the start of the workshop, during a press briefing in the Ministry’s conference room, at Jones Building, Wildey, Christ Church, on Monday, highlighted the desired outcome.

Mr. Abrahams said the workshop aims to help entrepreneurs “think globally” and to see the possibilities in exposing their businesses beyond Barbados’ 166 square miles.

“A lot of businesses in Barbados are constrained by the fact that we see ourselves as limited by 166 square miles…. We see our marketplace as being limited by the 260,000 to 270,000 people that exist and live in Barbados, but if you have a product that is a worthy product, it should not be limited to our square miles. You should only be limited as far as your imagination can take you,” he stated.

The Minister suggested that the BPS will have a role to play in expanding SMEs, in that the BPS can offer their courier services to help deliver products to customers who order locally, regionally, or internationally.

The workshop, which is being referred to as a “Digital Bootcamp” is being conducted by the Chief Executive Officer of VicentePimienta.com and Digisults, Vincente Pimienta, who is also a Google Expert and Digital Coach.

Mr. Pimienta, who has over 27 years’ experience, said he plans to share some tips on how entrepreneurs can utilise digital and global market strategies to expand their businesses.

“I’m going to share step-by-step, best practices, lessons learned, and next steps in order for you to grow your business and take advantage of this digital world, which is now global…. The key thing here is to help the small [and] younger entrepreneurs…. Help them understand how to overcome the most common obstacles online and actually how to help people buy from them with techniques,” Mr. Pimienta said.

The United States Postal Service is facilitating Mr. Pimienta’s “Digital Bootcamp”, which has received a positive response and is over-subscribed.
