Exclusive Interview – Reshmi Ramnarine discusses the thriving Caribbean market

Ecotank printers are the way to go

With the introduction of home-schooling and work-from-home opportunities, the demand for printers and printing supplies increased. And, while going paperless is our goal, many people still need to print on a daily basis.

According to Reshmi Ramnarine, Strategic Account Manager – Epson Caribbean, there is a greater demand for printers and printing supplies, and Epson’s technological advancements have amplified productivity with high-performance machines that are convenient, wireless setup that allows users to print even from their phone or mobile device. So, how can businesses and families keep up with rising living expenses?

Have you ever purchased a printer and thought to yourself, “Wow, what a good deal,” only to sit and watch it collect dust a few months later because you simply cannot afford to purchase replacement cartridges? Well, there is a solution: Epson “ecotank” printers significantly reduce the cost of replacing ink.

Then, imagine a parent printing all of these assignments, having them completed by their children, but now being tasked with scanning and uploading for the school. Epson ScanSmart supports easy scanning and editing with a user-friendly interface, for seamless scanning.

Ramnarine, who joined Epson in October 2019, has already made inroads into the Caribbean market, which was previously dominated by a competing brand. In fact, her solid understanding of the various cultures across the Caribbean earned her the OSA – Outstanding Sales Award at Epson in her first year of employment.

Ramnarine is no stranger to business solutions, owing to the foundation she gained as a Manager at Digicel Business. Nothing, however, prepared her for the vast differences in culture that exist across the Caribbean.

“Despite the fact that I am selling the same product, the opportunity at Epson provided me with an understanding of sales in different cultures”.

“When comparing the sales process in Belize, which is very focused and aggressive, to that in Trinidad or Jamaica, which can be a little more laid back and casual, I have to adjust my tone, strategy, and tactics to close the deal.” She explains.

Epson now sells through a distribution channel that extends from distributor to reseller, with over 7 top distributors including Datatech, Intcomex, Ingram Micro, and others.

Her focus on the regional market has already resulted in a shift in growth from month to month to week by week, and the number of new resellers and distributors continues to grow.

However, if you thought Epson only made printers for the home office or consumers, you were mistaken. Epson is well-known for its SIDM and dot Matrix printers, which are widely used in the financial industry. Furthermore, commercial printers have been elevated with the retail side of the business and now account for 60% of Epson’s business. Indeed, Epson serves many government agencies and has conducted some demo testing in the last year, which resulted in closed sales due to the significant cost savings that these agencies received.
