Dominican government mobilizes aid for citizens affected by Hurricane Melissa in Jamaica

Must read

Following directives from President Luis Abinader and Foreign Minister Roberto Álvarez, the Dominican government has mobilized immediate support for its citizens in Jamaica, particularly in the Montego Bay area, after the passage of Hurricane Melissa.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MIREX) reported that the Dominican Embassy in Jamaica, led by Ambassador Manuel Antonio Durán, has evaluated the situation and confirmed that no Dominicans have been injured or killed. However, several residents suffered property damage and loss of belongings due to the strong winds and heavy rains brought by the storm.

MIREX announced that the Embassy will coordinate the delivery of humanitarian aid to affected Dominicans with the assistance of the Ministry of Defense. This action aligns with the Dominican Republic’s foreign policy priority of protecting and assisting its citizens abroad. The Embassy also reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining ongoing communication with Jamaican authorities, relief organizations, and the Dominican community to ensure their safety and well-being.
