Mothers Against Cruel Sentencing (MACS), a nonprofit dedicated to reforming unjust sentencing practices, launches at Bitcoin2025 today. Founded by Lyn Ulbricht, MACS aims to support prisoners and families impacted by excessive and inhumane prison sentences.
Ulbricht was inspired to establish MACS following her son Ross Ulbricht’s life sentence without parole for his role in the Silk Road marketplace. “Multiple thousands of people, many of them nonviolent like Ross, are serving extreme sentences—locked away for years, decades, even lifetimes,” said Ulbricht. “MACS aims to give families a voice to push for fair and reasonable sentencing, where the punishment fits the crime.”
Ulbricht will introduce MACS at the Women of Bitcoin Brunch, a large gathering of women who are active and influential in the Bitcoin community. Attendees will hear from Ulbricht and other advocates about the organization’s goals and ways to support the effort.
