Up to the end of February 2021, more than 24,000 streetlights across Barbados had been replaced with energy-efficient LED bulbs.

The 1.5-year-old project being undertaken under the auspices of the Energy Division of the Ministry of Energy, Small Business and Entrepreneurship, is more than 85% completed and should be wrapped up next month.

The status of the Public Sector Smart Energy Programme was explained by Project Manager in the Energy Division of the Ministry, Keisha Reid, in response to a question from St. Michael South MP, the Honourable Kirk Humphrey, during the debate of the 2021-22 annual Estimates of Revenue and Expenditure in the House of Assembly today.

To date, she revealed, 24,600 of the 27,650 LED streetlights imported for the project have been installed, with the work being divided between the Government Electrical Engineering Department and the Barbados Light & Power Company.
