Renewable energy was the focus during a courtesy call with Sweden’s new Ambassador to the Caribbean, Anders Bengtcén.
The courtesy call was paid on Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Kerrie Symmonds, following the presentation of Ambassador Bengtcén credentials to the President of Barbados, The Most Honourable Dame Sandra Mason, on Tuesday.
Minister Symmonds welcomed the Swedish Ambassador to Barbados and wished him all the best in his post as Ambassador to 14 Caribbean countries.
According to the Stockholm-based Ambassador, he plans to be as “helpful” as possible and is committed to enhancing the trading relationship between the two countries.
During their meeting, the two officials discussed the possibility of Sweden providing technical cooperation in renewable energy, especially in the areas of offshore wind energy and the development of regulatory frameworks.
Minister Symmonds and Ambassador Bengtcén also spoke about international and regional issues, the upcoming signing of the Post-Cotonou Agreement, and Barbados and Sweden’s designated UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
Also present at the courtesy call were: Director General of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Donna Forde; Senior Foreign Service Officer, Trecia King; Foreign Service Officer II, Asha Pitt; and Sweden’s Consular Officer based in Barbados, Kristina Springer.
Barbados and Sweden established diplomatic relations on March 19, 1976.
