Must read

The Airports Authority of Jamaica (AAJ) has budgeted $9.53 billion for capital investments in the new financial year.

The information is outlined in the 2026/27 Public Bodies Estimates of Revenue and Expenditure, tabled recently in the House of Representatives by Finance and the Public Service Minister, Hon. Fayval Williams.

“Planned capital expenditure includes the continued rehabilitation of the Apron at Norman Manley International Airport (NMIA) to enhance aircraft movement, safety, and operational efficiency at a cost of approximately $5 billion for the budget year. Additional capital works, projected at $2.1 billion, are also scheduled to be undertaken at the Ian Flemming International Airport and the domestic aerodromes,” the document said.

Other works include the completion of the Palisadoes Shoreline Protection project at an estimated cost of $159.42 million, and the Phases 1B and 2A of the NMIA Capital Development Programme at an estimated cost of $16.60 million.

Meanwhile, to support the growth of general aviation in Jamaica, the AAJ will continue the Aviation Scholarship Programme, providing 14 annual scholarships for training in private pilot licensing, aircraft maintenance, and airport operations at certified local institutions.

“The programme aims to build a skilled workforce while strengthening Jamaica’s role as a regional aviation hub,” the document said.

The AAJ was established under the Airports Authority Act of 1974 and has the primary responsibility of managing and operating Jamaica’s international airports and domestic aerodromes.
