Barbados | Grantley Adams Airport Records Highest Passenger Volume In Its History

In 2025, Grantley Adams International Airport successfully handled over 2.4 million passengers, marking the highest annual passenger volume in the airport’s history.

The milestone represents a 1.9 per cent increase over 2024 and a 5.2 per cent increase compared with 2019, underscoring sustained growth in passenger demand.

This performance was delivered without any significant negative impact on operations, reflecting the airport’s capacity, systems, and operational readiness.

Chief Executive Officer, Hadley Bourne, said the achievement reflects execution rather than scale alone and comes in a milestone year for the organisation.

“As we mark 20 years of the airport’s incorporated operations, this record is a reminder that performance at scale is never accidental. Over time, the airport industry has come to recognise GAIA Inc. as a strong voice for small-airport operations, and we are proud that others look to our systems and standards as a benchmark for operational excellence.

“What matters is not only the number, but how it was managed. Handling 2.4 million passengers safely and responsibly over the past year reflects disciplined teams, service continuity, and coordinated operations across the airport community. I want to thank our staff across every function, as well as our airline partners, air traffic controllers, ground handlers, concessionaires, security, and all stakeholders who contribute daily to keeping this operation stable, safe, and service-focused.”

Since assuming responsibility for airport operations in 2006, GAIA Inc. has steadily strengthened its governance frameworks and operational capability. Passenger traffic has grown significantly from 1,500,953 in 2022, to 2,106,640 in 2023, 2,372,367 in 2024, and now a record 2,417,065 in 2025, reflecting consistent year-on-year growth. This milestone reflects 20 years of GAIA Inc.’s incorporated operations, focused on safety, service continuity, and reliability.

While the airport has delivered this record performance, GAIA notes that sustained growth reinforces the importance of modernisation. Barbados’ continued appeal as a destination of choice has increased passenger demand, and that demand places new expectations on the airport experience for both travellers and stakeholders.

In many areas, teams continue to deliver high performance while working within the constraints of mature infrastructure and ageing assets.

The airport’s expansion is expected to break ground this year, and the upgrades that accompany it will strengthen GAIA’s ability to deliver a consistently positive experience, and to maintain Barbados’ position as a regional leader in airport operations and service.
