Government will soon launch the Barbados Job Register, a new digital platform designed to record, manage, and share information on the skills, qualifications, and employment profiles of individuals across the island.
The launch will take place on Monday, August 25, at the Sagicor Cave Hill School of Business and Management Inc., The UWI Cave Hill Campus.
First revealed at a post-Cabinet briefing by Minister of Labour, Social Security and Third Sector, Colin Jordan, the initiative represents a major step toward improving labour market management, expanding employment opportunities for Barbadians, and strengthening national workforce analytics.
The Barbados Job Register will be a comprehensive database that will allow resident Barbadians to submit their skills and qualifications for inclusion.
It was developed in collaboration with the Ministry of Labour, Social Security and Third Sector, the Office of Infrastructure and Planning, the Ministry of Innovation, Industry, Science and Technology, the Immigration Department, the Barbados Statistical Service, and technology partner Intergen Technology Inc.,
Key benefits of the Barbados Job Register will be:
- An accessible platform for Barbadians to showcase their skills, qualifications, and résumés to prospective employers.
- Employers will have a broader pool of candidates and access to information on their résumés, competencies, and skills.
- The Immigration Department will be able to improve its decision-making when reviewing applications for short-term work permits.
- Enhanced labour market statistics to strengthen national workforce planning.
- Valuable insights to guide investment decisions, particularly in the construction sector during the ongoing building boom as well as in other key sectors.
The data collected through the platform will also enhance the Ministry’s capacity to conduct labour market analysis, directly supporting its mandate to create employment opportunities locally and internationally for Barbadians. The Barbados Job Register forms part of Government’s ongoing commitment to modernise labour market systems, improve transparency, and provide Barbadians with greater access to employment opportunities.
