Canonical and LOL: A New Alliance Opening Up Multiple Opportunities

Canonical, the company behind Ubuntu, and Licencias OnLine (LOL) announced a strategic agreement that opens new opportunities for the channel in Latin America. The alliance aims to boost the adoption of open source solutions in key areas such as private cloud, virtualization, automation, and edge computing.

During a webinar presented by Mariela Giussani, brand manager for Canonical at LOL, along with the regional team, the products and benefits that will be in focus from this alliance were reviewed. In addition to Ubuntu, Canonical offers a robust portfolio that includes security tools, corporate support and professional services.

“The potential of Canonical to bring innovation, scalability, and new opportunities is enormous. We work with a subscription model that includes different levels of partnership, from initial resellers to advanced partners focused on specialized services. All have access to commercial and technical training through our partner portal,” explained Rafael Leitenski, Channel Manager for Canonical in Latin America, during the online event held on July 8.

Much more than Ubuntu

While Ubuntu remains its best-known product, Canonical’s reach is much broader. Their solutions cover the entire spectrum, from hardware (mobile devices and IoT) to cloud platforms, automation, virtualization, databases, machine learning, and artificial intelligence. All integrated into an open source ecosystem supported by the company and its hardware partners.

Its core offering is Ubuntu Pro, a subscription that covers more than 30,000 packages and guarantees up to 10 years of support and stability. These packages include solutions for storage, Kubernetes, virtualization, and OpenStack.

Private cloud: the alternative to VMware

Canonical is strongly betting on private cloud as an option compared to VMware. According to Leonardo Seben, brand lead for South America and the Caribbean, the company offers two key solutions.

On one hand, MicroCloud, a lightweight and easy-to-operate cloud based on LXD, ideal for SMBs, edge environments, small data centers, and labs, with support for up to 50 physical servers.

On the other hand, OpenStack, a robust IaaS platform, comparable in functionality to VMware, designed for large enterprises and enterprise-level data centers, with a focus on innovation and artificial intelligence.

Concrete opportunities

Among the main opportunities this alliance opens up are:

– Alternative solutions to VMware.

– Replacement of proprietary and costly operating systems.

– Kubernetes as a driver of innovation.

– Ubuntu Pro as support for the entire open source stack.

Local support and guidance

Another key differentiator is the technical support for the channel. “Our team includes Spanish-speaking engineers who assist in pre-sales and client meetings. We also offer deployment services, technical support—standard, emergency or managed—as well as training, migration tools and consulting” said Seben.

Canonical and Licencias OnLine bring together a strong offering for the region’s partners. The opportunity on the table: training, integrating these solutions, and capitalizing on business demand.

For those interested in further exploring Canonical’s alternatives to enhance their private cloud, on Tuesday, August 5, a new webinar will be held for which you can register here.
