A platform that keeps evolving: Intcomex automates its Miami distribution center

Must read

Intcomex, the leading platform for technology distribution and value-added solutions across Latin America and the Caribbean, has successfully implemented a state-of-the-art automation system at its Miami distribution center. The project was the result of a strong collaboration between the local operations team, the regional IX Commerce team—an omnichannel retail operator within the Intcomex Group—and the leadership of CEO Mike Shalom and COO Danny Schachtel.

The new module fully automates the picking and packing process for small parts and boxes, more than doubling the center’s storage capacity—from 4,000 to nearly 9,500 positions. It marks a major step forward in Intcomex’s regional growth strategy.

Back in October 2021, Intcomex Miami reached a key milestone when it relocated from Doral to its new warehouse in Medley. However, due to permit delays from Miami-Dade County at the time, the planned automation module couldn’t be installed right away. For those unfamiliar with the setup, this four-level system is designed to maximize the storage and movement of small items, using conveyors and automated packing lines to streamline operations, improve space efficiency, and cut processing times.

This upgrade is part of a larger regional strategy that’s been underway for more than three years, with automation projects already rolled out in seven countries. “It’s a big leap forward in our automation journey—helping us standardize, scale, and continuously innovate. It’s one more way we’re setting ourselves apart in the logistics space,” said Carlos Franco, Senior Operations Planning Manager at Intcomex.

The new system also enhances the company’s warehouse management system (WMS), while bringing more consistency to operations—improving order accuracy, reducing errors, and raising the overall quality of service. “At the end of the day, this gives us more control, smoother operations, and fewer mistakes—which means better productivity and a better customer experience,” Franco explained.

But beyond the operational gains, the automation project reinforces Intcomex’s value proposition to its customers, partners, and team members. “It opens new logistics opportunities for our clients and strengthens our role as a strategic partner. And for our people, it creates a modern, efficient work environment that’s aligned with global standards,” he added.

What’s more, Intcomex is focused on delivering a consistent and replicable experience across the region. “This gives us a solid foundation to scale best practices from one country to another, creating a well-aligned and efficient network,” the executive highlighted.

The message is clear: “Intcomex is ready to be our partners’ go-to distributor. Our investments in automation, regional process alignment, and a focus on operational excellence allow us to deliver a logistics experience that’s scalable, efficient, and tailored to the needs of every market.”
