E-Learning Jamaica Celebrates 20 Years

e-Learning Jamaica Company Limited (e-LJAM) will be celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, under the theme ‘20 Years of Transformation and Digital Innovation: Powering EdTech in Jamaica’.

Since its inception, e-Learning Jamaica has played a pivotal role in revolutionizing education across the island by integrating cutting-edge technology into classrooms

Chief Executive Officer of e-LJAM, Andrew Lee told JIS News that the Agency’s 20th anniversary is not just about reflecting on the past but also looking ahead to a future where technology continues to revolutionize and change education in Jamaica.

“Of course, we invite all our stakeholders, our teachers, students, parents and partners to join us as we celebrate the significant milestone of introducing and ensuring that technology plays a critical role in the education of our students,” he said.

Several activities have been planned to celebrate the year including a church service to be held at the Bethel Baptist Church in Kingston on March 16.

This will be followed by the launch of the Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) Education in schools programme on March 19, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Skills, Youth and Information, the British Council, and the National Education Trust.

In addition, an awards function is planned for June 20, to recognise stakeholders who have contributed to the organisation’s success.

Other activities include commemorative videos showcasing the organisation’s impact, a social media competition engaging students, and a technology and education conference.

“This forum will engage industry leaders in EdTech (education technology) and our policymakers in education. We will be discussing and showcasing some of the technologies that are going to impact education in the future, including artificial intelligence, augmented and virtual reality, coding, and robotics,” Mr. Lee said.

The conference will also feature student’s robotic and demonstration.

e-Learning Jamaica is the agency of the Ministry of Science, Energy, Telecommunications and Transport responsible for promoting the integration and infusion of technology in the public education system.
