Dominican Republic and IAEA discuss advancements in mining and nuclear energy

Energy and Mines Minister Joel Santos met with Facundo Deluchi, manager of Technical Cooperation Programs at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), to advance initiatives in mining exploration and nuclear energy production.

Discussions focused on innovative technologies, including gamma-ray imaging using radioisotopes for mineral detection and the potential for nuclear microgeneration through reactors of up to 300 MW. Deluchi highlighted the Dominican Republic’s active partnership with the IAEA, citing the construction of a Secondary Dosimetric Calibration Laboratory as a regional reference.

Both officials agreed to continue inter-institutional meetings, foster agreements, and position the country as a hub for nuclear energy events.
