The Dominican Republic began 2025 with a historic tourism record, welcoming 1,155,484 visitors in January—an 8% increase over 2024, 22% over 2023, and 53% over 2019, according to Minister of Tourism David Collado. The country received 759,929 tourists by air and 395,555 cruise passengers.
The United States led with 36% of visitors, followed by Canada (25%), Argentina (8%), Colombia (5%), and France (3%). Punta Cana Airport remained the top entry point with 63% of arrivals, followed by Las Américas (19%), Cibao (9%), and Puerto Plata (7%). Hotel occupancy reached 82%, with an average stay of nine days.
Collado emphasized that 2025 will be even better for tourism due to strong public-private partnerships and efforts to improve air connectivity. He also highlighted the country’s participation in upcoming tourism fairs, including ANATO in Bogotá, Colombia.
