Dominican Republic | Metadata RD implements network to support internet connectivity in Venezuela

Must read

Technology expert José Gómez Canaán, founder of Metadata RD, announced that the company is establishing a provisional regional network to keep Venezuelans connected to the internet amid the ongoing crisis. This initiative aims to ensure that the people of Venezuela remain informed during these challenging times.

Gómez Canaán explained that this alternative system was initially designed for emergency situations and catastrophes. However, it is now being utilized to support the Venezuelan people in their fight to restore democracy, with the assistance of Starlink, owned by Elon Musk.

“With Starlink’s authorization, we have deployed Starlink units in various parts of Venezuela using a metadata mesh network that operates on the 450 megahertz (MHz) frequency,” he said.

Gómez Canaán highlighted that they have received continuous support from Starlink from the outset. “We currently have over 400 Starlink transmitters connected to our Metadata network through a private server located in the Dominican Republic,” he noted.

He added that more than 200 Starlink transmitter units are being installed across Venezuela. While he did not disclose specific locations for security reasons to protect them from the Maduro regime, he assured that Venezuelans accessing this network will have coverage in several critical areas.

The project is being executed with the collaboration of Venezuelans opposed to the regime, as well as citizens from Colombia and Brazil.
