Approximately 25,700 electronic vouchers (e-vouchers) have been issued to educators in public schools islandwide under the ongoing ‘Own Your Own Device’ initiative.
This brings e-Learning Jamaica Limited (e-LJAM) closer to its target of disbursing 26,000 e-vouchers.
The State agency is responsible for promoting the integration and infusion of technology in the public education system.
Under the Own Your Own Device programme, educators at all levels are provided with assistance to purchase a laptop computer from an approved vendor.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of e-LJAM, Andrew Lee, told JIS News that nearly 24,000 teachers have, so far, redeemed their vouchers.
He is encouraging those who have not used their vouchers, as yet, to make use of the opportunity.
“We are in an era that we cannot escape, and we must use technology to enhance the teaching and learning experience. With all the emerging technologies… teachers can engage in a more meaningful way with their students,” he said.
Mr. Lee noted that his organisation and project partner, the Ministry of Education and Youth, are working to distribute the remaining e-vouchers by June this year.
The CEO said teachers will receive the e-voucher via email or SMS text message after his team verifies the information provided in their applications.
Participating vendors from which educators can obtain devices are listed on the vouchers.
