The Bahamas formalizes diplomatic relations with the Solomon Islands

Must read

The Bahamas and Solomon Islands have signed a Joint Communique to formalise diplomatic relations.

The agreement was signed by Bahamian Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ambassador Stan Smith and his Solomon Islands colleague Ambassador Jane Waetara last week in New York.

“This diplomatic agreement signifies the strong commitment to enhance cooperation between the two countries, as they both share commonalities as small island developing states (SIDS) vulnerable to climate change. Given their shared values, this agreement acts as a catalyst for strengthening bilateral engagement in the areas of climate resilience, climate adaptation, and   preservation,” the Bahamian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.

“Notwithstanding the enhanced cooperation that will stem from this agreement, both countries have supported each other in multilateral platforms like the United Nations and through the Commonwealth Group of Countries, South-South Cooperation, the Organization of the African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS), among others.”

The Bahamas said this alliance will allow both island nations to collaborate on shared objectives within international and domestic spaces.
