No tsunami threat to Belize following earthquake

The National Meteorological Service and National Emergency Management Organisation (NEMO) in Belize have advised citizens that there is no tsunami threat to Belize following a strong earthquake which occurred earlier today.  

A 5.5 magnitude earthquake occurred around 9:16 am at a depth of 10 km with the epicentre located along the Central American fault line, about 38 miles North-North West of Guanaja, Honduras.

Residents across certain parts of the country reported experiencing tremors from this earthquake. However, no major damage has been reported.  

Residents have been advised that no tsunami alert has been issued for the country of Belize as the country is not expected to be affected by any significant tsunami wave from this system.
