The Prime Ministers of Jamaica, Antigua and Barbuda and The Bahamas have held their first meetings with King Charles III in his new role as their monarch.
The meeting, which took place over the weekend ahead of Queen Elizabeth II’s state funeral, was held at Buckingham Palace in London.
The first Prime Minister to meet King Charles III was Philip Davis of The Bahamas.
“Meeting with His Majesty The King today at Buckingham Palace was a pleasure. Our conversation was a great reflection on the relationship the Royal Family has shared with the people of The Bahamas. I expressed my personal condolences and well wishes to King Charles III,” Davis said in a social media post.
Prime Minister Andrew Holness met the King and expressed condolences on behalf of the Jamaican people.
“[On Saturday] I had an audience with King Charles III, the first since he became King. I congratulated King Charles on his new role and I expressed to him my deep and sincere condolences following the passing of his mother, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II,” Holness said.
Prime Minister Gaston Browne was one of three heads of government from Charles III’s realm that was granted an audience on Sunday.
Browne also offered his condolences and congratulated Charles III on his ascension to the throne.
