Island-wide power outages have been reported in North, Middle and South Caicos, Grand Turk and Salt Cay.

Approximately 30 per cent of customers on Providenciales is without power.

In a post on Facebook, FortisTCI said: “As gusty winds and rain continue across the islands, customers are experiencing service disruptions. Once the all-clear is issued, our crews will work relentlessly to get the lights back on for customers in affected areas.”

The company said the pace of restoration will be influenced by the extent of damage caused to the power grid and equipment.

Strong winds and rain from Hurricane Fiona are still affecting the Turks and Caicos Islands.

The storm is located 50 kilometres north-northeast of North Caicos Island.

The US National Hurricane Centre (NHC) said Fiona will continue to move near the eastern Turks and Caicos during the next few hours and will move away from the territory by tomorrow.
