Barbados And Mexico To Share Tourism Best Practices

Must read

Barbados and Mexico are both enthusiastic about sharing best practices and knowledge expertise in the area of tourism.

These subject matters along with the development of a framework cooperation agreement were discussed when Ambassador of Mexico to Barbados, Víctor Hugo Morales Meléndez, paid a courtesy call on Minister of Tourism and International Transport, Senator Lisa Cummins, in the Ministry’s Conference Room, One Barbados Place, Warrens, St. Michael, today.

Minister Cummins welcomed Ambassador Meléndez to Barbados and expressed her interest in working with the Ambassador and the Government of Mexico in developing a collaborative reciprocal relationship centred around tourism, that would involve hosting a summit and creating a work programme for persons in the hospitality sector.

Ambassador Meléndez, who is based in Trinidad and Tobago, presented his credentials to President, Dame Sandra Mason, earlier in the day and noted that his posting as Ambassador to the Caribbean is his first to an English-speaking territory.

He pointed out that Mexico has more to offer than beautiful beaches, including its culture, business, archaeology and Formula 1 Racing.

During the meeting, the officials also discussed cultural and professional exchanges, an air lift agreement, training for hospitality workers and efforts to promote Barbados in Mexico.

Also present at the courtesy call were: tourism ministry officials including Permanent Secretary, Francine Blackman; Director of Latin America and the Caribbean for Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc., Corey Garrett; Chief Technical Officer, Jacqueline Blackman; Deputy Chief Technical Officer, Dionne Gibbs-Nicholls and Head of Economic-Trade Affairs and Development Cooperation, Flavio Hernández González.

Barbados and Mexico established diplomatic relations in 1972.
