The Caribbean Community warned that they will not attend the Summit of the Americas if Nicaragua, Cuba and Venezuela are excluded from attending

Antigua and Barbuda`s ambassador to the United States, Ronald Sanders, says the 14 countries of CARICOM will not attend the Summit of the Americas event, if the policy of exclusion against Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua is maintained.

The Caribbean Community has strong relations with Cuba and Venezuela.

Cuban Ambassador His Excellency Sergio Pastrana paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister, the Honourable Mia Amor Mottley, Q.C., M.P., recently, at Ilaro Court, Two Mile Hill, St. Michael.

The two discussed the longstanding relationship between Barbados and Cuba, as well as other areas of mutual interest including health, biotechnology, trade and air connectivity.

Diplomatic relations between Barbados and the Republic of Cuba were established on December 8, 1972.

St Vincent and the Grenadines

Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves says St Vincent and the Grenadines has obtained permission from Venezuela to “borrow back” US$9 million that Kingstown paid on loans owed to Alba Bank. The money had been held in an escrow account at the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank, ECCB, as sanctions imposed on Venezuela by the United States prevented its transfer to Caracas.
