Prime Minister Hon. Philip Davis congratulates Central Bank Governor John Rolle on being named to The Bloomberg 50, a list of those who have made stellar contributions in their chosen fields. Governor Rolle is being highlighted for his work in the local financial services arena. This sector has remained dynamic and made great strides over time, all while managing to maintain its position as the second largest industry in the country.

Prime Minister Davis said that, “As the offerings and services of the global economy continue to expand, it is important that The Bahamas continues to evolve in every aspect, including modernizing the way we do banking.” The Prime Minister added that, thanks to John Rolle, the country has advanced as a global leader in e-currency, with the introduction of the Sand Dollar.

The Sand Dollar has made financial services accessible for thousands of Bahamians who were challenged by the limited reach of traditional, commercial banking.

John Rolle was appointed Governor of the Central Bank of The Bahamas in 2016 and has held numerous positions in economics and finance over the course of his career. 1 “I wish to extend congratulations to Governor Rolle on being named to The Bloomberg 50 List of People Who Changed Global Business in 2021 and thank him for the significant contributions he continues to make to the landscape of the Bahamian economy.”
