The University of the West Indies (UWI) has announced that it has secured a grant of US$25 million from virtual and augmented reality software developer EON Reality.

The university said this is the largest international grant that it has ever received.

The grant will see EON Reality, which is based in the US tech hub Silicon Valley; enter the Caribbean market as a post-COVID education development leader, according to The UWI.

Established in 1948, UWI is the largest and longest standing higher education provider in the English-speaking Caribbean .

For over 70 years The University of the West Indies (The UWI) has provided service and leadership to the Caribbean region and wider world. The UWI has evolved from a university college of London in Jamaica with 33 medical students in 1948 to an internationally respected, regional university with near 50,000 students and five campuses: Mona in Jamaica, St. Augustine in Trinidad and Tobago, Cave Hill in Barbados, Five Islands in Antigua and Barbuda and an Open Campus.
