Ahead of the 2021 International Day of Sport for Development and Peace, the Secretariat will host its annual Commonwealth Debate on Sport and Sustainable Development on 30 March.

The debate provides people from the 54 member countries with a timely opportunity to examine key issues affecting sport and physical activity during the COVID-19 pandemic.

A particular focus will be on assessing the linkages between sport, physical activity and public health across the Commonwealth, and the impacts of increasing digitisation of the sport and physical activity sector on social policy development.

The debate will feature two teams of experts who will argue for and against whether an investment in technology is the key to re-building the sport sector post COVID-19.

Teams will include Commonwealth government officials, sports personalities, academics, youth leaders and development experts.

An independent judge will assess the arguments from both teams and will select a winner.

The debate will be held virtually for the first time due to COVID-19, which will allow people from across the Commonwealth to join and contribute to the online discussion.
