The Jamaica Manufacturers and Exporters Association, JMEA, is commending the Government for the removal of the Customs Administrative Fee for exports valued under $US500 dollars.
The announcement was made by Finance Minister, Dr. Nigel Clarke, in his opening contribution to the Budget Debate last Wednesday.
The company says the move is a welcomed one for the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise (MSME) community, which accounts for 74 percent of its membership.
It says MSMEs will now be encouraged to export and capitalize more on opportunities previously missed due to cost hindrance.
Small businesses within the apparel, cosmetics and personal care subsectors have also expressed approval at the announcement.
Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, e-commerce has become a vehicle for MSMEs to market their products and to reach potential consumers.
