4 February, 2021, Port-of-Spain: The Book Industry Organisation of Trinidad and Tobago has joined the list of donors to the Ministry of Education’s Adopt A School programme. Members of the publishers’ and booksellers’ group donated a quantity of devices to students of government and government assisted schools in a ceremonial handover attended by Dr. the Honourable, Nyan Gadsby-Dolly, Minister of Education on Thursday 4 February 2021, at the Ministry’s Head Office in Port of Spain.
Minister Gadsby-Dolly conveyed thanks to the group represented by its President, Mr. Simon Cadette; Vice President Mr. Len Doodnath; Secretary, Mr. Vinai Charran; and Director, Mr. Mohan Baldeo. “We, at the Ministry of Education, continue to say that it takes a village to raise a child. This pandemic has caused the village to come forward to ensure that our most valuable resources, our children, are well taken care of. Today, the Book Industry has stepped forward to provide devices to our students. This is a symbolic step that demonstrates the posture of the book industry in embracing technology as the education landscape continues to change, exacerbated by of the global pandemic. On behalf of the Ministry, I thank you for your generosity and support. Your action today will inspire others to come forward tomorrow to do the same”.
The Book Industry Organisation of Trinidad and Tobago has a track record of supporting communities through donations of books and uniforms to deserving families, helping them to weather challenging times. It has already made donations of books, uniforms and online resources directly to schools since the onset of the pandemic.
